About Anja
High quality craftsmanship is important to me. Having studied Fashion and Textile Design with a specialism in Embroidery, it really is the details that make the difference in a design or product. My designs are handcrafted and components are handsewn onto a prepared base, the embroiderer in me wouldn’t have it any other way.
It really is a joy to be able to design accessories that combine all my knowledge gained in the commercial world of Textile Design and later Fashion Costume Jewellery Design. Developing ranges from trend forecasting for both disciplines still plays a part in my designs.
The headbands are designed, crafted and handmade in my studio space in Oxfordshire, UK. The components are all sewn on by hand, never glued.
I source as many of the components as I can from British suppliers, trying to shop local with a nod to sustainability by giving a new life to the pieces I find. By combining these elements with new materials I design pieces that are truly unique, often one of a kind. This ethos extends to the British environmentally friendly gift packaging I’ve selected.
The design process usually starts with a colour or theme in mind, but occasionally it is informed by the vintage and repurposed components or a stunning ribbon I just can’t leave on the shelf. I design from my box of found treasures be it jewellery, ribbons, buttons, braids or silk flowers. Inspiration can come from the smallest item or by laying out components that look fantastic together. Having a plant addiction helps with nature offering up the most delightful colour combinations in my own garden or I spot things when out walking the dog in the countryside.
I hope you enjoy wearing your headband because rest assured I loved making it.
